 Overview

This century sees significant changes in the way off-grid power is generated and used.

  • The cost of generating off-grid power is falling rapidly and increased numbers choosing to derive electricity from independent power sources.
  • Solar power has become a mainstream off grid power source as the price of solar panels continues to fall.
  • Other sustainable energy technologies – wind, tidal, fuel cell, Stirling engine - are developing rapidly, offering many alternative power sources

These new technologies are generally most effective when charging batteries rather than providing continuous AC power - creating demand for a high power high efficiency DC – AC inverter to provide continuous mains power.

The need for a high efficiency inverter is further driven by the consumer expectation of maximised efficiency in all power products

Total Mobile Power inverter technology

Total Mobile Power has developed technology enabling very high conversion efficiencies from low voltage DC to mains power. Conversion efficiencies achieved from 24V supply are significantly higher than that currently achieved with 48V supply. The technology can also be equally applied to higher voltages

Why 24 Volts?

Boats, RVs, emergency vehicles and other mobile units with heavy power demands typically deploy 24 V DC systems . The greater efficiency of the inverter, the less power generated is wasted. At present, many inverters intended for off grid power systems have used 48 V DC supply voltage in order to improve efficiency.
The Emerge Alliance 24 V lighting Standard is likely to lead to the rapid development of low cost efficient 24 V lighting bringing with it the need for an efficient 24 V conversion system.
